Practice essay "Coney Island"

Coney island is a poem written by James weil. James weil talks about how an amusement park is similar to life. He compares life and prizes with life situations. The poem tries to teach kids about life by relating it to an amusement park.

James makes some life lessons in the poem. He says "on a roller coaster ups and downs and seen my helium hopes break skyward without me." He's saying how he felt high at the top of the world, but then something in his life brought him down and that opportunity gone. The quote relates to ups and downs in life.

In the poem he talks opportunities in life. For example "how many more times around do I have to catch the brass ring sun." He's describing opportunities in life, and how if you take to long to grab the brass ring sun your time could be up.

The poem was placed to demonstrate his expiereences in life. He is using this poem to show his expierence to coney island and how his life was during the war. James wanted to show his life at an amusement park.

James weil is the author of the poem coney island. He talks about the rides and games. He also adds life lessons that match each ride correctly.  

Short Reflection

Throughout the semester we,ve been working a lot on our writing. I've been doing better in my vocabulary so now when I write I have more words to use and they are able to catch the reader's attention. When write my essays I am better in my organization. I learned how to connect my thesis an my conclusion together. I also learned how to be more desciptive in my writing so that readers can picture what I wrote in their mind.

KC3 Draft

There are a lot of busy people that live in Waipahu and Aiea. These people have jobs mostly in town or in another part of the island. Traffic is a major problem, our state has been ranked eleven for having the worst traffic. We've been thinking of other solutions that could solve this problem. There have been some second thoughts on rail and other high tech transportation needs. Although, it gets crowded the Zipper lane is the best solution.

Rail and the straddaling bus are both good ideas to solve our traffic problem. Hawaii is currently trying to save money and it costs a lot if money to begin production of these modes of transportation. I believe that the cheapest way to solve this solution is the zipper lane. The zipper lane also just involves setting up barriers in the morning unlike the Rail project we'd have to wait at least thirty years until we'd be able to use it. The Zipper lane is also free when you travel on it you don't have to pay three dollars for a ride everyday.

The zipper lane can benefit us when we use it. The Zipper lane is basically a way to prevent traffic congestion of the H-1. The Zipper lane doesn't stop until you reach the airport which is close to town. The zipper lane is only available in he morning when everyone is trying to get to work. Sometimes the Zipper lane gets crowded when others decide to use for other reasons to get into town besides work.

The zipper lane is also a way to preseve the beautiful paradise that we live in. If we were to add the Rail to our islands it would take away space. It would also take away the beauty and serenity from this island. This would make our island look more industrial and we'd lose our reputation of being a tropical paradise. Tourists come to the island to relax and get away from the busy city that they try to get away from.

All in all, the zipper lane has proven to be the best solution. The zipper lane is cheaper, and ecofriendly. Its also easier to construct instead of the rail system.

Quarencia Essay draft

*Swish* the sound of the ball falling through the net without the clank of the rim. By now you can probably tell my Querencia is the basketball court. The concrete, or wooden floor damp with sweat from past players. The sound of my shoes squeaking on the floor, The smell of the freshly waxed basketball court. For nine years I've been playing on these courts and since then it has been like paradise.

I walk in the gym in the gym and all I hear is the sound of the crowd cheering, The squeaking of shoes, and the scariest sound the buzzer. For a moment I get butterflies in my stomach, I overcome the feeling and realize I have a game to play. I walk pass the defeated team with looks of disappointment. I set foot on the court testing the grip of my sole. I made lay-ups and shots knowing that I shot these shots before.

The sound of the buzzer finally came, and I looked at the faces of my teammates. All of them were tired on their knees gasping for air. Suddenly I took a look toward the scoreboard where the score was a blow out and we won by twenty. I didn't even look to the scoreboard the whole game because I was having to much fun. After the thrill of the game was over we shook hands with the other players and I saw the same look on their faces like the ones before me.

Throughout the years I've have enjoyed my grandma's Lumpia. I enjoy watching her wrap all the ingredients in a lumpia wrap. After I see her slowly drown the lumpia in the fryer. I wait anxiously for the lumpia to be done. Once I see the sight of warm smoky lumpia resting on the counter I attack the lumpia first.
At parties we always hunt for lumpia. Lumpia was always sighted at Special events, and parties. It looks hard to make lumpia so I asked my grandma when she learned to make lumpia. She said "ever since she was a little girl". At that point I thought lumpia should be easy to make. I even saw my dad making it too.
When my grandma brings her lumpia as a snack we always look for our favorite type which is banana. Me and my brothers would alays fight for the last piece. I tried to make my own before, but it blew up in the fryer. I remember hearing the crunch of the lumpia wrap, then the melty banana so sweet dancing in my mouth. T this day i've come to appreciate the way my family makes lumpia.

Roots and Recipes

The dish that I chose for the essay was Lumpia. Most of my family learned to make this dish when they were little kids. This recipe is usually seen at my family parties, special occasions, or its just a great snack.  I remember hearing the sound of the lumpia frying in the fryer. I could also smell the banana lumpia so sweet. When I took a bite of the crunchy lumpia wrap the soft and sweet banana followed. Lumpia is part of my ethnicity which is filipino.
